Junior Warriors

Building confidence, focus and leadership for ages 7 – 12

Building discipline & Self-Defence Skills Through Wing Chun

As children enter primary school, their world expands and their minds and bodies are ready for bigger challenges. Junior Warriors is our Wing Chun Kung Fu programme designed for children aged 7 to 12 who are new to martial arts. Whether your child has never tried martial arts before or has dabbled in other activities, this class will give them a strong start while developing physical coordination, mental resilience and leadership skills in a supportive community.

Safe, supportive training

Safety is always our priority. Junior Warriors learn to read their surroundings and communicate assertively, developing situational awareness that becomes second nature. Controlled pad drills and carefully supervised self defence technique training introduce new students to applying techniques responsibly while building confidence

Our sessions take place in a positive, structured environment supervised by DBS checked instructors. We limit class sizes so that beginners receive plenty of individual attention and maintain a respectful atmosphere where every child feels safe to learn, make mistakes and grow.

Developing physical skills from the ground up

Children aged 7 – 12 have the focus and coordination to learn more complex movements. Our Junior Warriors programme introduces fundamental Wing Chun stances, punches, blocks and footwork, then progressively builds to more challenging combinations. Students develop:

•Coordination and range of motion: beginners practise movements that require stepping and turning in multiple directions and refine fine motor skills. They learn more complex techniques and combinations as their confidence grows.

•Speed, agility and power: drills challenge students to respond quickly to targets at different heights and distances. Longer combinations and pad work help build endurance and explosive power.

•Strength and fitness: Wing Chun forms, pad drills and bodyweight exercises & stretching develop muscle strength and cardiovascular health. Research shows martial arts improves strength, flexibility and endurance while helping children maintain a healthy weight and overall fitness.

•Progressive techniques: after mastering basics, students learn to combine defences with multiple strikes. Safe pad & self defence drills trained with a qualified instructor teach timing and distance without requiring prior experience.

Intellectual and emotional development: focus, resilience and decision‑making

Martial arts provides a mental workout as much as a physical one. Older children can concentrate longer, remember complex sequences and follow multi‑step instructions . Our programme nurtures:

• Goal setting and perseverance: the belt system motivates beginners to work steadily toward clear objectives. Earning a new sash teaches the value of persistence and steady effort. Our comprehensive reward system encourages 100% Black Belt Effort on & off the training floor

• Critical thinking and problem solving: pad drills require students to adjust their technique based on how the pad is held, encouraging quick decision‑making and adaptability. As they progress, students explore Wing Chun principles to understand why techniques work.

• Emotional regulation and resilience: controlled self defence training with an instructor helps children overcome fear of getting hit and practise safe application of their skills. They learn to manage frustration when mastering difficult techniques and stay calm under pressure, building emotional resilience.

• Respect and empathy: respect is a cornerstone of martial arts. Students bow before class, support training partners and learn to motivate each other. These simple rituals reinforce manners and gratitude..

Positive reinforcement and leadership development

Every Junior Warrior class reinforces good behaviour at home and school. Instructors praise effort and attitude, demonstrating that progress comes through hard work and respect. Structured expectations and rituals like “paying respects” before each class & sitting “locked up” quietly while awaiting instruction teach discipline and accountability.

Transferable skills and long‑term benefits

The lessons learned in Junior Warriors extend far beyond the training hall. Research shows that structured martial arts programs teach discipline, respect and accountability and help children handle stress, focus better and develop stronger social connections. Parents often report improvements in their children’s behaviour at home and school, greater confidence in social situations, and more resilience when facing challenges .

Long‑term students develop exceptional self‑esteem and healthy lifestyle habits. Martial arts fosters physical fitness, mental clarity and perseverance . The discipline required for regular practice translates to improved academic performance and better time management. Many Junior Warriors go on to become role models in our Leadership classes, demonstrating the “blackbelt lifestyle” of excellence, respect and continuous improvement .

PARENT TESTIMONIAL

“Our son has been attending classes for two years and he absolutely loves it! He has always been extremely shy and hesitant to join in with things, however from his first lesson, he instantly felt comfortable enough to join straight in and even put himself forward for things

His confidence has shot up, he is always practising, excited for his next lesson and always striving to achieve one of the many rewards on offer. We can’t believe how much he has learnt and we already feel so much happier that he would be able to protect himself if faced with a threatening situation. Very happy”
