Little Dragons

Fun, structured Martial Arts Classes for ages 4–6

Nurturing confident Little Dragons through fun, safe Kung Fu training

Our Little Dragons program is more than a children’s martial arts class – it’s a carefully designed introduction to Wing Chun Kung Fu tailored for children aged 4‑6. Our programme blends playful activities, age‑appropriate self‑defence and character development to promote confidence, focus and respect in a nurturing environment.

Developing confidence, discipline and life skills through positivity

Positive reinforcement is at the heart of our teaching. Instructors use praise and rewards to encourage effort and recognise progress, helping children understand that their hard work is valued. Research shows that structured martial arts classes teach children discipline, respect and accountability. Bowing before class & sitting in a focussed “Locked up” position while listening to instruction are simple rituals that reinforce manners and gratitude.

Building physical skills: balance, agility and coordination

Martial arts involve movements that require coordination between the upper and lower body. Studies on children’s martial arts confirm that repeated practice of techniques improves coordination and balance . Our lessons incorporate games and drills that develop strength, flexibility, endurance and cardio fitness, setting a foundation for healthy habits. We teach age‑appropriate striking, blocking and footwork to help your child move with confidence.

Little Dragons classes last around 30 minutes, giving youngsters just the right amount of training and playtime for their developmental stage. Each student progresses at their own pace, celebrating milestones such as earning reward cards as well as sashes all of which leads them towards the Little Dragon Black Belt, which in turn opens the door to our next-level Junior Warrior programme.

Our curriculum is designed to cultivate:

• Confidence and self‑esteem: Children set goals and celebrate achievements like earning sashes or performing in front of their classmates. These successes build self-belief and teach them to handle challenges.

• Focus and concentration: Youngsters learn to stay present, block out distractions and coordinate their movements, improving their attention span.

• Respect and teamwork: Partner drills teach students to work with others and appreciate different abilities. They learn to take turns, share equipment and encourage classmates.

• Emotional regulation and resilience: Martial arts teaches children to handle failures positively and bounce back from setbacks.

• Safety awareness and boundary setting: Regular practice develops situational awareness and the confidence to set boundaries and communicate assertively.

These life skills extend beyond the training hall. Instructors celebrate good behaviour at school and home, emphasising that a black belt attitude should reflect a child’s approach to life, not just their martial arts performance.

Positive routine and growth mindset

Children thrive on routine and consistency. Regular martial arts classes provide a predictable schedule that experts highlight as essential for their emotional and behavioural development. By keeping martial arts in their routine and celebrating each small success, parents help their children develop a growth mindset – viewing mistakes as opportunities to learn and improve .

Our Little Dragons programme reinforces this mindset by rewarding effort and perseverance, encouraging children to reflect on their progress and set new goals. Rather than punishing mistakes, we guide students to learn from them and apply their lessons in class, at school and at home.

Why choose our Little Dragons programme?

• Age‑appropriate Wing Chun: We tailor traditional Wing Chun techniques to suit four‑, five‑ and six‑year‑olds, turning blocking, striking and footwork into engaging games and drills.

• Comprehensive development: Physical fitness, confidence, discipline and respect are woven into every class, helping children grow into well‑rounded individuals.

• Positive reinforcement: Praise, sashes, reward cards and class awards reinforce good behaviour at home and school, not just martial achievements.

• Professional, DBS‑checked instructors: Our friendly instructors are experienced in working with young children and undergo continuous training to deliver safe, inspiring lessons.

• Clear progression: Students follow a structured curriculum that leads to a Little Dragon Black Belt and transition into our Junior Wing Chun class.
